Setting Profiles
Make life easy with Android
What if I don’t want to miss an important call while I’m on mute?
You can overwrite current sound settings with a rule based on Incoming Call condition.
Here is how to:
- Create a new rule
- Add Incoming Call condition and set it to your preferred contacts group (like VIP or Family)
- Add Activate Profile action to activate the profile where sound is On and/or some custom ring tone specified
That’s it! Now even if your phone is set to mute, it will still ring in case of a call from someone from Contact Group you have set up in step two.
p.s. Yes, you can customize your ringtone for selected contacts group using this condition!

The suggestion does not work for me. I”m use the latest version.
Two profiles: one silent, one loud. The rule us setup following the howto. The incoming call swithes the profile – i can see the Toggling Profile window shortly, but the phone remains silent.

Hello,
I have a strange behaviour here – I created a silent profile for all day & night and then added a profile like above with a Group.
When I call with one of the numbers of this group my Phone rings, everything is fine.
But when one contact from this group – the most important for me – call me the phone keeps silent, although I can see the number from the Group.
Do you have any idea/solution for this?

As a first step try to add this contact individually and see what number it shows in condition. Than compare it to the one your contact is calling from. Are those same?

thank you for this idea – now I saw the error message that this contact does not have a default number and this is not supported by the app – will try tomorrow.

Yep, currently only default number is supported. However, this restriction will be eliminated soon.

Also, I don’t see where to assign the default number. I have a contact with two numbers and it won’t let me select them for a rule. Am I missing something?

It’s temporary limitation. For time being you can set number as default with long tap on that number while in contact details (contacts -> open specific contact -> long tap on number -> make default)

I don’t want it to permananently change the profile. Is it possible for it to change for the call, then change back after the call? I don’t want calls from anyone after I get a call from my VIP.

Thanks. I figured it out by reading the comments in another thread. Unfortunately, i don’t sync my contacts with google because I use my work MS Exchange contacts as my contact list through Android (on a Droid). I guess I’ll have to start that though if I want to take advantage of that feature.

I don’t have a clue how to create a contract group, where is this in the program?

It’s on Gmail site. For some reason Google did not implemented group management on Phone side (that was surprise for us as well)

Once you create groups in Gmail and have you phone synced you can test it out in Phone Book -> MENU -> Display Group

OK, but how can I get a Gmail group I created to show up on my Android phone so Setting Profiles can recognize it?
